Group company initiatives

[Provision of eco-friendly products]

Initiatives by Dodwell B.M.S Ltd.

The Security System Division of core group company Dodwell B.M.S Ltd. partners with ISO-compliant manufacturers to sell eco-friendly products. Its products that are compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive are manufactured while keeping hazardous substances below the thresholds set forth by the RoHS directive.

》Environmental initiatives

Initiatives by Graphtec Corporation

Recognizing that “corporations have a responsibility to provide eco-friendly products,” Graphtec Corporation, a core group company and manufacturer, has built an environmental management system, and works to develop eco-friendly products. Its large scanner is the first large-format color scanner compliant with the international ENERGY STARR program, as well as the first product of its kind to qualify as a designated procured good set forth by the Act on Promotion of Procurement of Eco-Friendly Goods and Services by the State and Other Entities.

In addition, Graphtec observes the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directives.
Its RoHS-compliant products are manufactured while keeping hazardous substances below the thresholds set forth by the RoHS directive.

On August 18, 2004, the company’s headquarters and Fujisawa Office acquired the ISO14001 certification, and have since maintained and periodically renewed the certification.

Initiatives by IWATSU ELECTRIC CO., LTD.

At IWATSU ELECTRIC, we are committed to preserving natural capital through our business activities and contributing to the realization of a sustainable society as part of our environmental policy. Our efforts are focused on reducing environmental impact.

●Accredited by SBT (Science Based Targets)
We have set our base year as fiscal year 2020 and established greenhouse gas emission reduction targets for Scope 1 and 2 emissions at the 1.5°C target level, and Scope 3 emissions at the Well Below 2.0°C target level, with fiscal year 2030 as the target year. We are actively working to reduce emissions.

●Contributing to a Carbon Neutral Society through Measurement Technology
Using power electronics measurement technology, we are promoting the development of high-speed and high-precision measurement devices for next-generation power semiconductors utilizing SiC (Silicon Carbide) and GaN (Gallium Nitride). Our measurement devices and instruments support the production of power semiconductors used in EVs and wind power generation, contributing to the realization of a carbon neutral society.

●Product Environmental Assessment
To minimize the environmental impact of the products designed, manufactured, and sold by IWATSU ELECTRIC on the global environment, we conduct environmental assessments for new products with a focus on their lifecycle. The evaluation is conducted according to 16 criteria, including recyclability rate, energy reduction rate, and environmental safety.

[Circulative resources & provention of pollution]

Initiatives by Purus Inc.

According to the Toyohashi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Aichi Prefecture), Purus Inc. (consolidated subsidiary of Ai Holdings) received the top prize of the Environmental Management Award given to businesses in the Toyohashi district in recognition of initiatives undertaken in the areas of development of environmental technology and environmental measures.

Purus has developed an automated disposable moist hand towel dispenser that instantly delivers sterilized, heated, disposable moist hand towels, and the device has received high praise for its low impact on the environment as described below.

●The disposable moist hand towels use thinned wood (eucalyptus, acacia, etc.) as raw materials.

●Unlike cloth moist hand towels that are recycled, the disposable moist hand towels do not require cleaning after use. This removes the need to use detergents or cleaning water, eliminating surfactant outflows.

●Unlike conventional moist hand towels, the disposable moist hand towels do not require a separate warming device. This contributes to energy conservation and a reduction in CO2 emissions.

●The disposable moist hand towels are not packaged in PVC plastic. This reduces plastic waste and eliminates dioxin generation stemming from PVC processing.

[Initiatives to combat global warming]

Collaborative initiatives by group companies

The Ai Holdings Group recognizes climate change is one of the major challenges facing the global society, and it has therefore launched a demand control system (“the System”) initiative to reduce air conditioning-related power consumption and electricity charges as part of its measures to combat global warming.

The System is a cloud-based demand monitoring system that automatically adjusts the air conditioning output through centralized control of outdoor air conditioning units, reduces power consumption during peak demand (the standard based on which basic electricity charges are calculated), conducts time-sharing control in three-minute intervals, and reduces annual power consumption while maintaining comfortable temperatures. The System relies on wireless communication and solar power supply that take advantage of the Group’s Internet of Things (IoT) technology, removing the need for wiring work. The System is expected to be rolled out to a larger number of buildings, including those of a scale for which cost-effectiveness had hitherto been an issue. Furthermore, the System can make the reduction of greenhouse gases visible in the form of reduced CO2 exhaust volume.

The Ai Holdings Group will continue to push ahead with this initiative to help realize a sustainable global society going forward.
